- Approximately 26 percent of those who receive care is dealing with a memory problem

- Approximately 7 percent of caregivers report that cancer is the primary reason that they started caring for their aging parent
- Around 7 percent of caregivers report that mobility issues are the primary reason that their care recipient needs care
- Approximately 53 percent of care recipients are hospitalized each year
- Caregivers report spending an average of 24.4 hours per week directly caring for their aging parent
- Approximately 23 percent of caregivers spend 41 or more hours per week directly caring for their aging parent
- Around 59 percent of caregivers report assisting their care recipient with at least one of their activities of daily living
- Approximately 43 percent of caregivers say that one of their most common care efforts is helping their recipient get in and out of chairs or their bed
- Caregiver report that the most challenging care tasks to assist their recipient with are their personal care tasks, such as bathing and toileting.

Valerie has the unique experience with home care as she has experienced it from both ends of the spectrum, as a caregiver and as needing care herself as a cancer survivor. Valerie says, “Taking care of someone you love is a physically, mentally and demanding labor of love.Taking care of my mom was the hardest thing I have ever done. It has given me an insight and perspective not many people understand unless you are doing it or have done it.I loved taking care of my mom.I love helping others take care of their love ones too.And now that I’ve been sick, it’s given me a whole new level of empathy and understanding for those who are sick and need help.”
